Overview
This 7 Nights / 8 Days Sikkim & Darjeeling tour is a well-balanced Himalayan holiday that combines the liveliness of Gangtok, the quieter mountain charm of Pelling, and the timeless hill-station character of Darjeeling. With 3 nights in Gangtok, 2 nights in Pelling, and 2 nights in Darjeeling, the itinerary gives enough time to enjoy the journey properly instead of turning the trip into a constant hotel-check-in exercise. It is especially suitable for couples, families, and first-time visitors who want a classic Eastern Himalaya circuit with a good mix of scenery, culture, local sightseeing, and iconic viewpoints.
The journey begins in Gangtok, where the experience moves from city viewpoints and monasteries to the high-altitude excursion circuit of Tsomgo Lake, Baba Mandir, and the optional Nathula Pass. This part of the trip carries one of the strongest mountain experiences of the package, but it is also permit-based and subject to weather, road, and administrative clearance. The official Sikkim tourism authorities state that permits are required for these restricted/protected sectors, and Nathula permits are issued only to Indian nationals through registered travel agencies, while foreign tourists may travel only up to Tsomgo Lake.
From Gangtok, the route moves toward Pelling through Namchi and Ravangla, adding spiritual and scenic value to what would otherwise be just a transfer day. Ravangla’s Buddha Park (Tathagata Tsal) remains one of South Sikkim’s major attractions, and the Pelling stay deepens the trip with a more open mountain setting, monastery heritage, sacred landscapes, and waterfall-based sightseeing. The Pelling section becomes especially memorable because it brings together the Pelling Skywalk area, Pemayangtse Monastery, Rabdentse ruins, Khecheopalri Lake, Rimbi Falls, and Kanchenjunga Falls, giving the itinerary a stronger cultural and landscape identity than a plain hill-station holiday. The official Sikkim tourism site describes Khecheopalri Lake as a sacred lake revered by both Buddhists and Hindus.
The final leg in Darjeeling brings in the classic postcard side of the Eastern Himalaya. The early morning excursion to Tiger Hill remains one of the defining experiences here, and the Darjeeling district administration notes that the sunrise point is known for the dramatic first light on Kanchenjunga, with Everest also visible on a clear day. When combined with Batasia Loop, Ghoom Monastery, the Zoo, HMI, Japanese Temple, Peace Pagoda, tea garden views, and Tenzing Rock, the Darjeeling stay rounds off the trip with a familiar but still rewarding hill experience. Overall, this itinerary works because it does not try to show everything in Sikkim; it focuses instead on a classic, saleable, and comfortable route that most travellers can enjoy without the exhaustion of more road-heavy sectors.
