Your Goechala Trek begins with a long scenic drive to Yuksom, the historic trailhead and base settlement for the trek. The road journey usually takes around 6 to 8 hours through the hills. After arrival, check in, rest, and prepare for the trek ahead.

The trail opens gently through forested terrain, making this a good first trekking day for settling into rhythm and altitude. The walk is comparatively easier than the days ahead and helps the body begin adjusting to the climb.

Today the forest gets denser and the climb becomes more serious. After crossing the Prek Chu section, the trail rises steadily toward Bakhim and then continues to Tsokha, where rhododendrons, mountain air, and the first real high-trail atmosphere begin to define the trek.

This is one of the toughest ascent days on the route. The trail climbs hard through Phedang and Deorali Top before easing toward Dzongri. The gain is significant, so a slow and steady pace is essential. By evening, you reach one of the most famous camps on the Goechala Trek.

A rest and acclimatisation day at Dzongri strengthens the itinerary and improves summit chances. Early risers can hike to Dzongri Top for a sweeping sunrise view of Kanchenjunga, Kabru, Pandim, Rathong, and several other snowy summits.

The route leaves Dzongri and rolls across meadow sections before descending sharply to Kokchurang near the Prek Chu. From there, the trail climbs again to the broad campsite of Thansing, where the setting opens beautifully and the views become more dramatic.

This is a shorter and lighter day designed to position you for the summit push. The walk from Thansing to Lamuney is gradual and scenic, giving you time to rest, hydrate, and prepare for the very early start toward the Goechala viewpoint area the next morning.

The biggest day of the Goechala Trek starts before dawn. You move past Samiti Lake in the dark and climb toward View Point 1, where the first light strikes the Kanchenjunga range in unforgettable fashion. Current official guidance notes that trekkers are generally not taken all the way to the actual pass, and the key reward is the panorama from the viewpoint zone. After the sunrise experience, descend long back through Lamuney and Thansing to Kokchurang. The day is demanding but it is the emotional high point of the trek.

The return route re-enters dense forest and descends steadily via Phedang before reaching Tsokha. It is a long but scenic day, with the mood shifting from glacial landscape back into rich mountain woodland.

The final trekking day follows the familiar route down through Bakhim and forested sections before returning to Yuksom. As you approach the roadhead, the sense of expedition slowly gives way to the comfort of having completed one of Sikkim’s great Himalayan treks.

After breakfast, drive back from Yuksom toward NJP Railway Station or Bagdogra Airport, bringing your Goechala Trek package to a close.
